Before installing it, the first step is to protect the wood. For this cut a band of geotextile or plastic felt adapted to the size of your pallet. The standard size of a European pallet is 120 to 80 cm . This means that you should cut a strip of 130 to 90 cm . It is important that it is a bit longer so you can staple it and fix it afterwards.
The second step is the addition of potting soil. Before that, you can also add sphagnum . The latter will keep the soil always well moistened. And the very last step is the setting up of the plants and the installation of your planter ready.

Idea of small wooden planter DIY with wood of recovery
Do you have wooden furniture , old doors, fences or wooden planks? You can use it to create beautiful DIY wood planters! The size depends on your desires. To create a planter that is 34 cm high, 120 cm long and 38 cm wide, you will need:
- two wooden boards (Clinique spruce autoclave, for example) of size 2m40
- 2 pieces of wood (length 2m40 / 45 mm by 20 mm)
- two small plastic tubes for drainage
- 2 types of wood screws (long and short)
- riders with nail
- a tarpaulin
- clay ball bag
- planting felt
Steps to follow
The installation of the planter is very simple. Start by cutting three planks of 116 cm. Snap the 3 boards together. Cut 3 strips of 34 cm. Screw the cleats to the 3 planks. Cut out two cleats of 116 cm and 6 of 25 cm. Attach the cleats to each other – a 116 cm cleat with two 25 cm cleats attached to these ends and one in the center . Place the battens assembly on the bottom.Screw the cleats to the bottom with long screws.
Cut 6 boards of 120 cm and 6 boards of 34 cm. Place a 120 cm board on the planter. Center the board leaving 2 cm on each side. Then screw the board to the ends and to the center. Then assemble the second board in the same way and then the last one. Repeat the operation on the other side. Perform the same operation on the sidewalls. Remember to drill two holes for water drainage. Place the two small plastic tubes in the holes (see how on the video below). Position the plastic cover and fix it. Drill the tarp where you have drilled the two drain holes. Add clay balls to the bottom. Place the planting felt, add the potting soil and the plants.
