Archive for August, 2007

Despite the fact that our calendars still say it’s August, the cool snap we’ve had here in the D.C. area has begun to remind us all that Fall – and more importantly, Fall knitting – is just around the corner. (I’m convienently forgetting the sauna it’s been here the last few days…) We’ve already begun to receive the Fall yarns and books Aimee and I ordered back in May and June, and quite frankly, we’re not sure where it’s all going to live. Why am I telling you all this? Because it means we’re having one huge Blow-out Sale to make room for all of our new yarns Labor Day weekend!

While not everything in the store will be on sale, it’s going to seem like it. (Hey, we need to make some major room!) We’ll have things priced at 30% and at 70% off, just for the weekend. (Yes, I said 70%!) Want to see what’s on sale?

Now for the fine print: Sale prices are only applicable on merchandise in the store and can not be used for special orders or with other discounts. We will be marking Insatiable Knitter Cards that weekend, but will not redeem full ones. All sale merchandise is a final sale – discounts will be taken at the register. Unfortunately, we will not hold merchandise for purchase on the days of the sale, nor will we hold merchandise at the sale prices for purchase before or after the sale. We’re really sorry about that, but we cannot budge. If you have any questions, please bring them to myself or Aimee.

Our hours for Labor Day weekend will remain the same – we’ll be open from 10:30-5:30 on Saturday and 12-5 on Sunday. We hope to see you there!

A very special thanks to all the customers who braved the heat in KH yesterday – our air conditioning was knocked out by the storm on Saturday and it was mighty toasty in the shop, especially with all the boxes and boxes of new yarns we have in the back!

We have some other HOT NEWS to announce later this week – stay tuned!

If you’ve signed up for our email newletter, you certainly are. If you’re not… well, what are you waiting for? :) Signing up on the email list is a great way to be the first to find out about classes, newsletters, sales… all before I blog about it or put it up on our website!

After weeks of waiting and hoping, the newest Interweave Knits is here! Every good thing you’ve heard about the issue is true and now, you can have your own copy!

I love that knitted dresses are back in fashion. From the lovely new Interweave, featuring some great takes on the sweater dress to the gorgeous new Rowan, with designs to die for and colors that scream Fall, I’m in absolute heaven.

What could make it even better? Weather that’s cool enough to wear these designs!

I’m making Rannoch from Rowan 42 in Kid Classic. The pattern is beautiful, featuring cable details and fair isle sleeves. Even though I’m on smallish needles, I’m flying along. Now, I just need the heat to break!

(I know, I know.. .I just had to say it!)

It’s one MILLION degrees outside, almost too hot to even languish on the couch and turn the pages of Rowan… what’s a poor knitter to do?

Forget those DC cooling centers – come enjoy the air conditioning at Late Night!

We’re open until 8 PM tonight so you can pick up some cool fibers like linen or bamboo… A pretty, lacy, quick to knit tank would be PERFECT in this weather!

Universal Yarns’ Flax or Panda Bamboo would be great for “Soleil” from Knitty, or how about refreshing yourself with “Emerald Seas” (also from Knitty) in cotton or silk?

There’s a great lacy linen tank pattern in Amy Singer’s book No Sheep For You too – along with a lot of other patterns that would be great for knitting right now!

You know, there are just some things that signal when Summer is almost over, and getting the Fall Interweave Knits is one of them. I don’t know about you, but I know that I just get this pleasure out of turning the pages, dreaming about all the Fall knits I will queue up. (Yes, we all know I won’t get to all of them, but every single year I try!)

This year is no different. I mean, look at the sweater on the cover!! Is it not fab? Of course it’s knit in a yarn the shop doesn’t carry, so Elspeth, Aimee, Maeve, Steph and I immediately started to brainstorm for a perfect substitute… and we’ve found one! (Did you doubt?)

Imagine, being able to knit a sweater like this in a nice yarn… for under $50? Think it can’t be done? Well, we’ve got some news for you – the GGH Solitaire is a fab substitute! The sweater (designed by the ever-inventive Norah Gaughan) will only take 8-11 balls of the Solitaire (for sizes 32-48″ busts). At $4.50 a ball (at the online store), you can knit this sweater for anywhere from $36-49.50… for an entire project!

Now, I know not everyone has received their copy of Interweave Knits yet – subscribers just started getting them this weekend (I have my subscription sent to the shop) – never fear, we should be receiving our shipment of them in the next week or so. When we do, you can be sure that one of us will be posting about it… and about any possible “accidents” our credit cards may have…

Don’t forget – tonight is Knit n’ Nosh at Knit Happens!

Stop in from 5 – 7 pm for snacks & knitting & wrestling the last copy of Rowan 42 out of my cold dead… um, I mean… we can’t wait to see you!

Have you seen the new Rowan?

I love it. LOVE. IT.

I’ve already cast on for the dress (with cables! and fair isle sleeves! ooh la la!) and can’t wait until our Fall shipment for the Aurora, Cocoon and other gorgeous new yarns and colors. Stop and drool- I’ve got a Rowan 42 here, just for you!

I know, two in one day – from me, even – is unheard of! :)

We just got the new line of sock yarn from Regia… that they collaborated with Kaffe Fassett on!! As we all know, Kaffe is a GENIUS when it comes to color, and when Regia asked him to collaborate on a line of colors, thank goodness he said yes.

The yarn comes in two versions: the Mirage and the Landscape. The Mirage is more of a variegated yarn, the Landscape is a self-striping yarn. The cool part? Both the Mirage and the Landscape have the same colors in them. You must come in and see!

Also… I couldn’t let this post go without mentioning that we got in Rowan #42. Oh.My.Goodness. We all are in love with this issue, however, Elspeth’s credit card just might have had a little accident after seeing the magazine… I can’t promise that yours won’t do the same. ;)
